Enoggera State School is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for all students, staff, parents and visitors. The ESS Student Code of Conduct sets out the responsibilities and processes we use in our school to promote a productive, effective whole school approach to managing student behaviour. Its purpose is to facilitate high standards of behaviour from all in the school community, ensuring learning and teaching in our school is prioritised, where all students can experience success and staff enjoy a safe workplace.

Enoggera State School makes systematic efforts to prevent inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour by teaching and reinforcing expected behaviours on an ongoing basis. When these behaviour incidents occur, it is important that consequences are predictable. Our school seeks to ensure that responses to inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour are consistent and proportionate to the nature of the behaviour.

pillars-of-practice.pngPillar Practice

Our school community has identified three key pillars that underpin our approach to behaviour management and enable students to work in a safe orderly environment and promote our high standards of responsible behaviour.

  • Learning - Be a Responsible Learner
  • Relationships – Be Respectful
  • Safety – Be Safe

Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour for improvement. All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about the focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.

A copy of the Student Code of Conduct is available on the school website. Please click on the link of the home page.

The Learning Curve

At Enoggera SS we believe that healthy wellbeing is feeling optimistic and hopeful about your future, because you know that you are working towards becoming your best self.

Our role as teachers is to provide the environment [KB1] so that students feel that they have the will to act and power to act. The evidence-based lessons and activities within this program are growth orientated mindset movers that arouse students' interest and curiosity to want to learn more about themselves socially, emotionally and academically.

These include:

  • Identifying and then using their personal character strengths in their daily lives.
  • Practising the skills that they need to become resilient to respond well to and learn from challenges.
  • Becoming self-aware and self-regulated to accept struggle and effort as the drivers of their growth.
  • Learning how to show empathy for others and build respectful relationships with them.
  • Unlocking their problem-solving thinking through Habits of Mind to be flexible.

Positive Education involves intentionally and explicitly teaching young people how to develop the skills and competencies to grow their brain's abilities, called the cognitive domain while at the same time teaching them how to acquire the skills of social-emotional resilience, called the non-cognitive domain so that they can live a fulfilling and meaningful life.
