The Queensland Education system has a holistic approach to learning - from the early phase through to middle and senior schooling, further education, training and employment. The curriculum that is taught across the phases of learning in Queensland schools is the Australian Curriculum for all learning areas. Teachers decide how best to plan and deliver the curriculum to ensure all students have opportunities to engage in meaningful learning and achievement.
Australian Curriculum
Students from Prep to Year 6 engage with the Australian Curriculum in all learning areas, including, English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS, The Arts, Health and Physical Education (HPE) Technologies (Digital and Design) and Languages Other Than English. In each of these subject areas students are working towards a National Achievement Standard by the end of the year as published on the Australian Curriculum website.
Ongoing professional development activities are provided for teaching staff to further enhance their capabilities in the teaching of literacy and numeracy. Furthermore, specialist teachers with expertise in the areas of Health and Physical Education, Music, Chinese language and culture, Digital Technologies, Dance and Drama are employed to ensure high quality teaching and learning across all subject areas.
In addition to formal curriculum programs, students are also afforded the opportunity to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities, such as the following:
